We were fortunate to be able to visit quite a few UNESCO sites during our time in Morocco. Remember that we were the first group back "out into the world" and everyone was looking to us for a successful visit. So, although the format of our time in country looked different, it was still fabulous!
Kasbah des Oudayas
Founded in the 12th century, this site includes a castle, Andalusian garden (we could not see this due to construction), and a Moorish cafe...oh, and a bunch of cats! The architecture was beautiful!
Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Hassan Tower
Much like a number of other areas, due to Covid, some of this site was closed. The Hassan Tower is another UNESCO World Heritage Site from the 12th century. However, it was never finished. The Mausoleum contains the remains of King Mohammed V and his two sons.
Volubilis, another UNESCO World Heritage Site focused on the archaeological remains from the Roman Empire.
Fes el Bali - The Historic Old Medina
What a feast for the eyes, ears, and mouth - all senses! This place I thought was a market at first (and it is...you can get what you need or want) but additionally, people live and worship in this place as well...as have a fabulous cup of coffee! I have no clue how people navigate the "streets" of the medina....I know that I would continually get lost if I was alone. It definitely take awhile to orient myself.
Hassan II Mosque
This mosque is the second largest in Africa and seventh largest in the world. It is a magnificent to see in regard to the architecture, style, and design. Upon entering, it is quiet and I felt peaceful. We were fortunate to be able to enter to see the inside as well.
