Fulbright TGC Fellow UNIT PLAN
Less Than 1% Difference = Not Equal

Unit Summary:   Students will be learning about the topic of gender as per our Sociology coursework.  The focus for part one is on the social construction of gender based off of a unit that I previously wrote for my participation in the Yale National Initiative (YNI) - https://teachers.yale.edu/curriculum/viewer/initiative_17.02.07_u.

The second part of the unit will highlight the #5 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Gender Equality – Empower all women and girls.  Through the use of common and choice narrative and informative texts, students will investigate the current status of women locally and globally.  They will participate in collaborative groups (Book Clubs and Socratic Seminars) by actively listening to each other’s perspectives regarding gender.  They will research, synthesize, organize, plan, and create a series of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to constitute a school/district-wide campaign about SDG #5.  These will include local and global information which will demonstrate the connection they have to the issue.

Lastly, students will use data, experiences, textual evidence, to determine how to take action locally and globally in support of SDG#5.
